Phillip B. McElhaney, 51, of Alpharetta, Ga., died Thursday, June 4, 2009. Mr. McElhaney was a native of Chapel Hill. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in electrical engineering and later received his MBA from Berry College, Rome, Ga. He worked in the telecommunications industry for over 20 years and for the past seven years was employed by Occam Networks where he was the national sales leader for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, Aaron McElhaney, and his stepfather, Billy Bills. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Myra White McElhaney; mother, Dot Zimmerlee of Chapel Hill; brothers, Max (Donna) McElhaney and Ken McElhaney, and stepbrothers, Kevin and Kenneth Bills, all of the Lewisburg area; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 7, from the chapel of Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell, Ga., with Dr. Don Munn officiating. Graveside services were held Monday, June 8, at Reed-Walker Cemetery, Chapel Hill. Memorial donations may be made to Caring Bridge.org or to the Robert Preston Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge of local arrangements.
